Scarlett Lewis, the Program Founder of Jesse Lewis Choose Love, is returning to Pembroke Academy (PA) to give presentations on Thursday, Dec. 20.

The first time Ms. Lewis visited PA, the presentation was during a faculty meeting, where Gov. Chris Sununu attended and the Deputy Commissioner of the N.H. Dept. of Ed., Christine Brennan.

This time, Ms. Lewis, whose son Jesse was murdered by Adam Lanza at Sandy Hook Elementary School in 2012, will be presenting for the students as well.

Ms. Lewis’ presentation is going to be held in the auditorium in two sessions. With a modified class schedule, during Period 1, classes on the second and third floor of the academic wing will attend the first session starting at 7:35 a.m. The rest of the building will attend the second session starting at 8:35 a.m.

The presentations include student involvement, where Ms. Lewis will ask multiple questions to the crowd as she demonstrates what social emotional learning (SEL) is and why it is so important.

Ms. Lewis will also share the tragic tale of her son’s brutal murder at the hands of someone who lacked SEL skills. However, Ms. Lewis’ presentations will share her post-traumatic growth and her story of hope and forgiveness.

Headmaster Mr. Famulari wrote in an email to all PA staff that Ms. Lewis’ presentation will try to help resolve social issues within the building.

“We recognize that there has been an overwhelming sentiment raised by staff that the climate and culture in this building stems from how students interact with one another as well as adults, and Scarlett’s presentation hinges on improving that very dynamic,” he wrote.
