The United States Postal Service (USPS) is sponsoring its annual charity event called “Operation Santa” from Sept. 18-Dec. 18.
“Operation Santa” encourages children who are less fortunate to submit letters to “Santa” that include gifts they would like to receive for Christmas.
The letters are then uploaded onto the USPS website where people called “adopters” volunteer to read the letters and buy the gifts for the child.
The postal office will stop accepting letters to Santa on Dec. 11. The adopters then have until Dec. 18 to mail the gifts. The local post offices give adopters a QR code to scan when mailing the packages to assure privacy for those receiving the gifts.
The gifts are required to be new and unopened for health and safety reasons. Anyone interested in becoming an “adopter” can visit the website at https://www.operationsantanh.org/.
