Last year, three members of the Philadelphia Eagles offensive line made a Christmas album called “A Philly Special Christmas,” and it was surprisingly good.
The album includes favorites such as “White Christmas” and “Santa Claus is Coming to Town,” I also like the way that each lineman sings their own song.
For example, in “White Christmas,” tackle Jordan Milata demonstrates a powerful voice and singing ability. This isn’t a surprise, though. He is native Australian, and they learn to sing at a young age.
Fellow tackle Lane Johnson, a Texas-native with a recognizable Southern accent, makes his songs sound country. The accent comes out the most in his rendition of Elvis’s “Blue Christmas.” While I’m not a country fan, I love his voice.
Center Jason Kelce—whose brother is currently dating Taylor Swift— is passionate about making people happy, and this is obvious in the album. He puts his full heart and soul into “Santa Claus is Coming to Town,” and his passion is obvious as he yells into the microphone.
It’s also obvious that the trio is having the time of their lives recording the album just in the way they just click from Milata’s singing ability to Johnson’s southern “twang” to Kelce’s passion.
I’m not an Eagles fan but listening to this album makes me like them just a little bit more. It almost makes me forget Super Bowl LII.
Almost.
