As the 2023-24 school year at Pembroke Academy rolled out, the traffic in the school parking lot has affected students, teachers and parents coming in and out of the building before and after school hours. .
Currently, there are too many students for the parking space ratio, which requires more students to carpool and creates more traffic in the parking lot.
Headmaster Dr. Morris sent an email to students, parents, and teachers regarding the issue of crowding in the parking lot.
“In fact, having approximately 900 people arrive and leave one place at relatively the same time will inherently create traffic issues and there are a few items that I want to share with you for helpful pointers and reminders of traffic laws for safety,” he wrote.
This creates a crowded environment that senior Sofia Palisi believes is “unsafe.”
In an attempt to rectify the situation, Dr. Morris recommended that parents wait 15 minutes to pick up their children, adding in his email that it “will generate significantly less stress,”
He also advised pedestrians to walk on the crosswalk and not through traffic.
Junior Noah Pepper said he typically gets to school around 7:15 a.m. and parks in the junior lot. He said that the traffic is “moderate” at that time, but if students get to school around 7:22 a.m, they “get right in.”
