The anticipated movie to the Cartoon Network’s “Steven Universe” left fans in awe of its brilliant execution on serious topics that most cartoons are afraid to touch.

“Steven Universe: The Movie” has a noticeable skip to the future, where the characters we once knew and loved have grown up.

The main character in this series, Steven Universe, has lived his life on Earth in peace for the past two years with the crystal gems after stopping The Gem War. Everything finally seems to work out for Steven.

But what’s a good story without a conflict?

A gem called Spinel comes crashing down, literally and figuratively. She swears vengeance on the crystal gems. Spinel keeps mentioning a tie to Pink Diamond, a character that has a big impact on Steven Universe’s world.

Spinel makes the movie heart-stopping. Rebecca Sugar, the creator of “Steven Universe,” does an excellent job creating this character. It is realistic without being overly dramatic. Combined, it makes the execution flow fluently.

The soundtrack, composed by Aivi and Surashhu Sugar, makes the movie more touching. All of Spinel’s experiences are summed up in one song that produces a whirlwind of emotions.

If you’re a big fan of the “Steven Universe” franchise, this movie will not disappoint. Even for newcomers to the cartoon, the movie touches the heart and soul.
