Winter Carnival returns to the gym

PA will hold its annual Winter Carnival on Feb. 24-25. It marks Winter Carnival’s return to the gym for the first time since the start of the pandemic in 2020.

Schoolwide COVID protocols will be followed, and masks will be  required to be worn at all times in the gym and elsewhere in the school. Some events, however, will allow competitors to remove masks for their safety.

If a class fails to adhere to mask requirements, points will be deducted, said Eliza Fisher, the Student Senate historian.

Unlike previous years, however, students will view the skits and lip-sync videos one class at a time in the auditorium.

Senate advisor Ms. Mullen said she is looking forward to the annual talent show, saying it’s a nice kickoff to the major Winter Carnival events. “I love getting to see students outside of the classroom exhibiting skills and passions that I sometimes didn’t even know they had,” she said.

This year’s Winter Carnival theme is “villains,” with each class celebrating some of our favorite villains: freshmen are the Stormtroopers from “Star Wars”; the sophomores are the Queen of Hearts from “Alice in Wonderland”; the juniors are Megamind; and the seniors are The Joker from the “Batman” movies.

On Friday, Feb. 18, each class will decorate a hallway in the building based on their theme, which will be judged by the school custodial staff. The decorations will then be moved to the gym for bleacher decorating on Wednesday, Feb. 23.

On Feb. 21-23, the Student Senate will organize Spirit Days with specific themes for each day.

“We had to put a lot of work into making this all happen and I know it is going to be great,” said  Fisher. “I’m proud of the entire Student Senate, and I’m excited to get one last Winter Carnival.”
