PA updated its dress code for the 2021-22 school year

Some of the changes include that students’ clothing must completely cover the torso, including undergarments, and hoods and sunglasses are prohibited during the school day.

During a summer meeting, the Pembroke Academy Leadership Team (PALT) developed new language for the dress code for a proposal to The Pembroke School Board, who approved the  modifications  at the August meeting.

The language mirrors  the new dress code at Three Rivers School, which The School Board approved in June.

PA implemented the modifications due to a high number of students not adhering to the dress code in years past.

The specificity of covering the torso is due to the trend of wearing crop tops.

“We have been enforcing the dress code as best we can and will continue to do so as the year progresses,” said headmaster Dr. Morris in an email.

A female senior believes that the changes are “sexist and unfair and have no effect whatsoever on anyone but the female students.”

“It makes me angry that they are censoring female students,” said the student, who wished to remain anonymous “I’m not buying a whole new wardrobe or changing what I’m comfortable wearing to fit a sexist agenda. If the boys in this school can’t control themselves, punish them. Stop blaming the woman.”
