Last year, the spirit team at Pembroke Academy won the State Championship for the first time in a decade. On Nov. 3, the spirit team defended their Division II title at Pinkerton Academy in Derry.

The Spartan spirit clinched a victory for a second straight year with a score 95.3.

Senior Jayden Keeley said, “The competition was nerve-wrackingly exciting,” said senior Jayden Keeley.

The championship was the result of hours of practice and hard work. Coached by Alyssa McQueen, Melissa Gerrish and Nicole Nason, the spirit team endured two and half hour practices, three days a week.

For junior Taylor Beaudoin, the hard work paid off.

“The team really came together as one on that mat and after the performance we knew that we had done our best,” she said.

While senior co-captain Macey Cotnoir had her doubts, in the end, she and teammates triumphed.

“We put a lot of work into the competition and although a few weeks ago, we did not seem like we could accomplish something like this, we did,” she said senior co-captain Macey Cotnoir.

The spirit team hopes to continue their dominance this winter.

“We are hoping for a winning winter season to add onto our undefeated fall season,” co-captain Deirdre Nelson said.
