Teachers scheduled to be vaccinated

March 12, 2021

On Mar. 4, Gov. Chris Sununu announced that New Hampshire will start vaccinating teachers and staff for the COVID-19 virus.

A week prior, President Joe Biden issued an executive order to prioritize educators and have all of them vaccinated by the end of March.

The governor, however, decided not to expedite New Hampshire teachers to the front of the lines and stay the course, a decision that drew criticism.

For now, PA teachers can register for vaccinations on March 17. Vaccinating teachers is a necessity to fully opening the school.

“We need to follow CDC guidelines, and if the expectation is that we are opening up schools more and more, we need to provide teachers with the safety measures that are available to  open schools safely,” said headmaster Dr. Morris.

Phase 2A of the vaccinations, which includes public educators, anticipates the state to partner with school officials to organize and schedule vaccination clinics in their area to administer the first doses in closed pods.

“I think it was about time. I think they should keep treating teachers and school staff as essential workers,” said school registrar Marie-Ann Demchak.

Vaccinations, however, do not mean that schools can let up the other CDC recommended safety precautions.

“I think people are starting to see that not shaking hands, washing hands a lot, even the mask wearing has prevented the spread of other viruses as well,” said Dr.Morris.

While vaccinating teachers may alleviate the spread of COVID-19, the larger community will also need to participate to return to a semblance of normalcy, said school nurse Ms. Daigle.

“There needs to be a lot of participation from the members of the community and people will need to be willing to get their immunizations,” she said.
