Spartan Days make my week

Lacey Duggan, Staff

It’s 7:30 a.m. on a Monday morning, and I walk into Forensics class as the music stops. As soon as I sit down and unpack my bag, the girl sitting beside me sighs.

“It’s Monday, and you know what that means…a Spartan Day,” she says, groaning.

“So,” I say and shrug.

While I may be in the minority, for me, Spartan Days are beneficial.

Being able to start each week by meeting with all of your classes and teachers helps me get organized for the week. I like to know what I’m going to be doing that week. I like knowing if there’s going to be any summative assessment due so I can plan ahead.

In addition, I know I’m not alone when I say I can’t sit still for 87 minute blocks on Green and White Days. After about an hour, I start to lose focus, space out and become fidgety. On a Spartan Day, the 44-minute classes are way more manageable, allowing me to stay focused throughout the day.

For me, Spartan Days move quickly, so I can understand why teachers may not like it. Other students believe nothing productive gets done in the classes, but I don’t see it that way. I see Spartan Days as a way of getting situated for the week.

Although some of my teachers and classmates wish to get rid of Spartan Days, I believe that would be a shame. Spartan Days make Mondays somewhat more tolerable for me. So stop the Monday morning groans and try to make the best of them.
